Chin Up Chin Up/Appleseed Cast
I was going to leave a comment about Shea’s article, but I realized I had too much to say.
Last night I went to see Chin Up Chin Up and the Appleseed Cast at the M-Shop. The unscheduled first act was apparently a friend of Chin Up Chin Up who lent them his van for the trip from Chicago. Right away, I could tell that he was seriously high/drunk/living in a parallel universe. He was doing the “if you were high this would sound good to you, too” sort of electronic noise, setting up guitar feedback and so forth. A couple of times he actually got a beat going and I kept thinking, “This could almost be good if this guy could only sing.”
Seriously. Way off key.
Then he two-fisted beers for the rest of the otherwise excellent show. I bought a CD from Chin Up Chin Up, but I haven’t had a chance to listen to it, yet. Go see them if you have a chance.
I may reference this post in a future article about bands with only one person in them. Remember, Phil Elvrum has cred. You don’t.
